Destination marketing attracts new visitors to Oklahoma, whose spending creates significant economic activity. This in turn generates crucial tax revenue that supports essential public services, improving the quality of life for Oklahomans. Despite these proven benefits, securing and preserving tourism promotion funding is an increasingly uphill battle. When a state (or city) loses all or part of that funding, it cedes the economic benefits of tourism to another destination (state) as visitors simply choose to travel elsewhere. It can take years to recover from the loss of new visitors and subsequent economic activity. 
 
The original vision of this advocacy group was to share how #OKTourismWorks. We needed an additional and more consistent voice than the state travel association. We wanted to share the awesome work of OTRD and advocate for additional funding in their marketing budget to further impact the Oklahoma economy through tourism. Through moves and career changes the voice has become quieter. There's still work to be done and stories to tell, but until others in the industry pick up the microphone, we're going to park these channels.
